Many friend and family members ask me how I have downloaded the movie we just saw. Mostly it are movies which are just a few days in theater or will be released on DVD in a week or so.
For those people and for the once who want to know what you can download where, here a download special.
This special doesn’t show you how to download, but just where you can find your download and what level of experience you need to download. Note: although the level says: ‘Advanced’, this doesn’t mean you can’t do it, it just says that less experienced people may run into problems.
The list of what you can download where is build up like this.
Name: Name of download option.
Level: Level of experience you should have to NOT run into problems.
Description:A description of this download option.
Network: Network it uses to download.
Explanation: How to use this download option (mostly some URLs).
Advantages: The advantages of the use of this download option.
Disadvantages: The disadvantages of the use of this download option.
Most downloaded: Type of download it “should” be used for.
Note: Some special notes to have in mind.
So here we go:
Name: Binaries
Level: Advanced
Description: Downloading by the use of news servers.
Network: Usenet (a.k.a. Newsnet)
Explanation: http://www.binaries4all.com
Advantages:Downloading with the maximum speed of your Internet connection.
Disadvantages: Downloads will be erased after a few days from Usenet, so if it isn’t there today, it might be tomorrow, but don’t be to late..
Most downloaded: All types of files.
Note:Most downloads will be re-uploaded to be downloaded by others, so if you are just to late for one, it will mostly be downloadable later.
Name:BitTorrent
Level: Normal
Description:Downloading by the use of other downloaders
Network: Internet P2P technology
Explanation: A central server coordinates the download, but the download itself is on multiple places, you can download pieces from these places and but them together as your download. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)
Advantages: By using multiple servers to download from, download speeds can be very high.
Disadvantages:In order to download, you need to upload too. It uses a fair-use policy, so if you don’t upload much (at the beginning of a download, when you don’t have that much data to share), you can’t download much. But you are also dependent on other users, if none shares the files you want, you can’t download it either.
Most downloaded: All types of files.
Note: The more you have downloaded from a download, the more you can share, the more/fatster you can download, so download speeds will be low at the beginning of a download but after a few minutes, it will increase.
Name: File sharing networking
Level: Beginner
Description: Download files from other users computers.
Network: Gnutella, eDonkey, Gnutella2, Kad, BitTorrent (as discussed above), Freenet, Overnet, WASTE
Explanation: You can download the files other users on the network share. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer_file_sharing
Advantages:Download speeds can be high, depending on the Internet speed of the user you are downloading from.
Disadvantages:Viruses, Trojans and stuff like that can be easily spread.
Most downloaded: Music
Note: By being careful, this it the best way to download your music.
