The new Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from CERN has an instrument called the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) will produce as much data as a digital camera with 60 mega pixels taking 40,000,000 pictures a second! This means they have to store and analyse more than a terabyte of data a second across multiple servers on earth. To do so they are building a new network to carry all this data with a speed of more than 10,000 times the speed Internet now has.
